SUMMARY:Keep Your Pets Fire Safe Week
DESCRIPTION:The City of Sedona has proclaimed the week of May 5\, 2025\, to be Keep Your Pets Fire Safe Week.  This week is sponsored by the Sedona Fire District (SFD) in partnership with the Humane Society of Sedona (Humane Society)\, the Sedona Community Center (SCC) and the Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition (VVCC)\, \nDuring this week\, SFD will be doing a number of activities including offering free pet fire safety information and pet alert stickers at all fire stations\, hosting a “pet locator alert walk” at Sunset Village on Saturday May 10th and giving residents the opportunity to enter their pet information into SFD’s website at www.sedonafire.org/pets. \nAt the same time\, SFD’s partners will be doing a number of activities to support greater pet safety and awareness. \n“Past research showed that pet ownership can increase positive hormones and decrease blood pressure.” Says Humane Society of Sedona Director of Philanthropy\, Brenda Redel. “Recent research in Social Indicators Research indicates pet companionship\, as measured in life satisfaction\, puts dogs and cats at a valued emotional place that mirrors marriage and close friendship.  All the more reason to ensure their safety in emergency situations.” The Humane Society will provide visitors with free pet fire safety information and pet alert stickers and will give free Rescue Retriever© devices to all who adopt a pet during this Week. \nThe Rescue Retriever© is a first of its kind dog paw shaped smoke detector\, designed to aid firefighters and first responders in locating and rescuing pets in a smoke or fire emergency.  When smoke is detected\, Rescue Retriever© will emit a bright strobing light for firefighters to navigate in a “search here first” approach through thick smoke. Easy to install\, this small device can make the biggest difference in a pet’s survival during an emergency situation. \nAt the same time\, through the Meals on Wheels program of the SCC and the pet program of VVCC\, volunteers will share pet fire safety information and install pet alert stickers and free Rescue Retriever© pet-location alert devices in the homes of client residents with pets. \nThroughout the Week and thereafter\, Rescue Retriever© devices will be for sale to interested residents at SFD Station 1 on Southwest Drive.  They can also be purchased at www.rescueretriever.com or on Amazon. \nMedia – for more information\, contact Helen McNeal of Sedona Fire District at 301-529-5268

A technological problem or failure that either prevents the posting of public notices on a website or that temporarily or permanently prevents the use of all or part of the website does not preclude the holding the meeting for which the notice was posted if the public body complies with all other public notice requirements. Please see the Public Notice of Meetings here. \nThe SFD Governing Board meets at least monthly and is open to the public.\nTemporary Public Participation Changes for Governing Board Meetings\nIn an effort to protect the health and safety of our employees\, residents\, and visitors\, the Governing Board will make meetings available to the public remotely via internet conferencing until further notice. Each meeting agenda will include information to allow you to access the meeting. The meeting will be recorded and posted on the SFD website as usual. \nCitizens may make oral comments on specific Agenda items or any topic relevant to District business during the public forum. Speakers are limited to three-minute oral presentations but may submit written comments of any length for Board files. Board Members may not discuss items not specifically identified on the Agenda. Therefore\, pursuant to ARS 38-431.01(H)\, Board action taken as a result of public comment is limited to directing staff to study the matter\, responding to any criticism\, or scheduling the matter for further consideration and decision at a later date. \n Notice: Public comment is encouraged\, but it is important that everyone demonstrates the appropriate decorum\, courtesy\, and respect during the meeting. Please treat your fellow citizens with courtesy. Outbursts\, interruptions\, and personal attacks will not be tolerated.  \nPublic comments are limited to three (3) minutes in length and will be taken in advance through email or live during the meeting. Please see the Public Notice of Meetings here. \nThe SFD Governing Board meets at least monthly and is open to the public.\nTemporary Public Participation Changes for Governing Board Meetings\nIn an effort to protect the health and safety of our employees\, residents\, and visitors\, the Governing Board will make meetings available to the public remotely via internet conferencing until further notice. Each meeting agenda will include information to allow you to access the meeting. The meeting will be recorded and posted on the SFD website as usual. \nCitizens may make oral comments on specific Agenda items or any topic relevant to District business during the public forum. Speakers are limited to three-minute oral presentations but may submit written comments of any length for Board files. Board Members may not discuss items not specifically identified on the Agenda.
